DESCRIPTION
When I read of the Eden Creek Grove as being the most remote collection of large sequoias, I just had to go. American Forests agreed to the story, and I set off with perhaps too much enthusiasm. My trip to Eden Creek led to one of my scariest backcountry accidents—a fall and a tumble that could’ve been much worse. The ankle I injured in that fall still plagues me, a reminder of mortality, and my tiny place among the thousand-year-old trees.
