DESCRIPTION
When a fellow river guide told me that a ponderosa pine grew in the Grand Canyon’s inner gorge above Horn Creek rapid, I was incredulous. That location is far from ponderosa habitat. And then I saw it, way above, like an apparition. Nature holds many mysteries. For this story, I hiked down to the tree from the South Rim, and found several surprises along the way.
